What is S275JR Plate ?

It is an unalloyed low carbon mild steel grade plate supplied in hot rolled condition. As a low carbon steel plate, it provides low strength and good machinability ideal for welding. S275JR is a very low carbon grade ideal for numerous general and structural applications. These plates are supplied as a hot rolled non-alloy grade, as it is used widely in construction, structural applications. This Plate is mostly used in the construction, maintenance, and manufacturing industries.

This Plate is not recommended for hardening operation; however, it can be applied to limited heat treatment processes such as case hardening. When hardening, the heat treatment temperatures include cooling, soaking, and heating as will vary due to factors as the shape and size of each component. Other considerations are while performing heat treatment operations, including the type of furnace, workpiece transfer facility, and quenching medium.

Properties of plates:

S275JR Plate is combined with excellent high-temperature properties with great ductility and weldability. These plates are typically used for elevated temperature applications. The general properties of alloy provide solid corrosion resistance, resistance to oxidations and superior strength to higher temperatures. These plates have excellent strength along with higher resistance to creep deformation and environmental attacks. Therefore, these plates are used in chemical processing applications. It has excellent resistance to normal temperatures and also has good resistance to carburizing and oxidizing environments. The alloying elements allow for good aqueous corrosion resistance.

These plates perform well in intermitting temperatures. The S275JR Plate has good resistance to thermal fatigue and cyclic heating. These are widely used where sulphur dioxide gas is encountered at hoisted temperatures. Continuous service at a higher temperature is not recommended because of the carbide precipitation range. These plates are often fabricated into complex designs. Its structure is considered weldable. The sever forming operations are performed by annealing operation. The S275JR grade is well known for formability, fabricability, machinability, and workability in adverse applications. Special consideration is required to compensate for the higher coefficient of thermal expansion to neglect distortion and wrapping.
