What is SA 283 GR.C Plate ?

It is heat resisting grade offers high resistance to oxidation scaling with high strength at hoisted temperatures. It has great creep strength at higher temperatures other than standard grades. Moreover, SA 283 GR.C has good resistance to oxidation in continuous service at higher temperatures. These plates offer excellent corrosion resistance in many reducing environments and have better corrosion resistance properties to standard grades. This grade is readily weldable with most welding operations, also with oxyacetylene welding is not recommended due to possible carbon pick. As with welding of standard grades when a filler metal is required, matching compositions are generally utilized. We recommend customers can use consumable for efficient welding. Heating is performed slowly and uniformly throughout the section. Re-heating is necessary and avoids working at down temperatures. Rapid cooling is considered to achieve optimum corrosion resistance. Forging is recommended annealing in order to obtain superior corrosion resistance. The oxidation resistance of the alloy is conventionally termed as the scaling temperature. Temperature oxidation rate of grade is unacceptably high. The safe scaling temperature for continuous service is between moderate temperatures to high temperatures. In an oxidizing and reducing sulfurous atmosphere, the scaling temperature of grade is lowered. This plate has a higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in terms of chloride and halide environments. This grade also opposes grain boundary precipitation.
